Ian Usher, 50, sold his life on eBay.
People would sell most weird stuff they own on eBay, the online megastore. But Ian Usher sold his entire life – his friends, house, vehicles, job, friends everything for $309,292. No possession at all, except his clothes he walked away.
This auction is by far one of the most expensive auctions on ebay. But why would a man sell his entire life ?
The story here starts when Ian Usher moved from Britain to Perth, Australia with his wife. 6 years after moving to Perth, he had a divorce. Ian Usher is a man of thrill. He’s an adventurer, diver, writer, speaker and traveler.
In short he is Bear Grylls, except that he loves terrific food. Heart broken Ian took a major step, for some may call it a leap of hope, he sold his entire life on eBay in Aug, 2008. He sold his 3 bed room house, his Mazda car, RV Van, jet ski, parachute gear and even his sky diving gear.
Ian Usher worked as a sales assistance at a rug shop. He left his old life back and moved on to start a new journey. This is when the interesting part starts.
With the money that Ian collected by selling his life on ebay, he traveled the world. He made a list of 100 things he wanted to do in 100 weeks.
This list included learning Spanish, traveling the most versatile places in the world, sky diving, sea diving, climbing, canoeing, running with bulls in Spain, swimming with white sharks in South Africa, cage diving with humpback whale in Japan, scoring a shot in Hollywood, meeting millionaire Richard Branson, riding motorbike on Wall of Death, $10000 charity, visiting Panama, hiking in Grand Canyon and even includes flying a fighter jet plane, sky diving wearing nothing but a smile.
After travelling the world, Ian Usher bought a little island offshore coast of Panama, where he even found his new love. His girlfriend Vanessa from Canada, met him in UK while his journey, has helped him building a house on his island. He lives there with her and 10 hens, flora and fauna only (flora and fauna are not his daughters names, it refers to plants and animals only). He grows coconut trees and sugar cane there and is working on growing other vegetables.
Ian spends his time with his new pets, swimming, fishing and relaxing on the beach. That is a life, isn’t it ? He has no worries about money since they don’t need much cash and is living a happy life. Ian wrote blogs and stories while travelling which you can read on his website IanUsher.com
Walt Disney has bought the copy rights for his story to film in a movie based on Ian’s life. Ian wrote a book on his life with the name A Life Sold.
Mr Usher said he had been overwhelmed by the support of the hundreds of people he met along the way.
“It always amazes me when people know the story of the eBay life-seller. ‘That was you ?'; Most people are very interested.”
Ian wants to spend his time working on his house and his little island. He has no future plans, but he says they keep coming along as life goes.
